Turf Club elects three stewards
BENGALURU: Mahendra Kugashankar, former chairmen V Harimohan Naidu and AC Satish Chandra were elected as stewards of the Bangalore Turf Club at its annual general meeting here on Monday.
Kugashankar topped the polls with 198 votes while Naidu and Chandra received 162 and 159 votes respectively. THR Rajeev (198 votes) and K Jayaram (180) were elected to the managing committee. Meanwhile, UB Venkatesh was appointed as the government nominee in place of HS Shrikanth. The other three government nominees who will continue in the managing committee are city police commissioner T Suneel Kumar, finance secretary ISN Prasad and L Vivekananda.
The newly elected members, along with the four government nominees, will meet on Wednesday to co-opt five other members to form a managing committee. The 14-member MC will then pick one of the stewards as the chairman on the same day. The elected members will continue in office for the next two years while the term of the co-opted MC members is one year. With the state government refusing to renew the racing licence and with GST expected to burn a hole in the club's finances, the new committee has its task cut out.
